— SUBMIT YOUR CONCEPT ART
Help us get this comic going! We need concept art for these characters, keeping in mind the vaguely 60’s inspired mod look with lots of inspiration from 60’s western cartoons Scooby Doo, Josie & The Pussycats and Johnny Quest and modern cartoons like Powerpuff Girls.
Anime influences for the series include Cyborg 009, Sailor Moon, Gatchaman and Hyakujūō Goraion (Voltron). Modern cartoons and illustrators like Genndy Tartakovsky, Bruce Timm, Cameron Stewart and Darwyn Cooke.
For the Batgirls and Tim Drake character standards:
All Batgirl costumes should have slight Gatchaman or Cyborg 009 influences.
Barbara:
Out of costume: Nineteen years old. Classic DCAU “Mary Jane Watson” black tank and white pant combo can be used. Very mod and stylish. Cateye glasses often on. Hairstyles changes often, updos and down too. Her legs are semi-cybernetic prosthetic.
In costume: Streamlined and tech-ed up version of her classic blue cape costume, possibly omit grey for a second shade of blue. Barbara should have distinctive tech-heavy boots that hint to her need for prosthetic legs and these supports that go up to her lower back enable super strength when in costume for kicking and jumping. Have distinct tech-gauntlet and small compact computer. A visor-like computer screen can flip out/extend across her eyes a la Sailor Mercury.
Cassandra:Out of costume: Eighteen year old. Slim build, not busty; slim black turtlenecks and black pants and black ballet flats. Loose white socks.
In costume: Black head to toe mouth covered costume. Eyes are whiteout instead of solid black like Spider-Man or Spoiler. Otherwise due to its simplicity it is rather the same, maybe slight traditional Chinese armor flourishes on gauntlets or in suit’s construction and tabi-foot boots.
Stephanie:
Out of costume: Seventeen years old. Mod eggplant purple dresses and dress-shirts with jeans or purple tights or white pants with yellow belt and matching purple headband in the big 60’s style. Her family is poor as in regular canon but she hides it in this one, putting a facade of having it together. Fashionable but not “sexy”.
In costume: Her in canon paneled costume is pretty complex to draw and I dislike when people make the main part black instead of duo-toned purple causing her panels to stand out too much so I opt for Stephanie to have either a subtly duo-toned purple suit, as in the panels are a closer to her main suit’s color. The other option would to put her in a slightly updated version of the first Batgirl costume; the purple Yvonne Craig Batman TV series costume. Solid eggplant purple and yellow accents which with her yellow hair would be striking. Her yellow thigh-belt and loose on the hips Han-Solo yellow belt are carried over from her canon costume. Paneling may be included if it can be subtle. Spoiler costume stays rather untouched as it is very simple.
Tim Drake-Wayne:
Out of costume: Sixteen years old. Clean-cut with fitted black, red, navy or other jewel tone polos and mod mock-turtlenecks the latter both long and short sleeve. Slim khaki or white pants.
In Costume: Tim doesn’t wear a “true” costume in this series as he is mostly at the Batcave/bunker as their info broker and tech support. He wears goggles when on his Vespa scooter out doing surveillance.
List of other characters that will be appearing that need designs!
Batwoman
Huntress (Helena B)
Flamebird (Bette)
Misfit
Batwoman and her associates; Huntress and Misfit should have a slight unified costume motifs or look maybe even military dress influences with with epaulets and the like. They are mysterious and aloof. Batwoman is veiled in shadow and not shown at all for quite a while, so very vampiric. Flamebird’s costume differs (See Nightwing) as she is the last to join.
Nightwing (Dick Grayson)
Costume should mirror elements of Flamebird’s rather intentionally or rather both should resemble (perhaps cape-less) versions of the “Gotham” costumes Christ Kent and Thara Ak-Var donned as Nightwing and Flamebird preboot before donning their structured armor “powersuits”.
Robin (Damian Wayne)
Swashbuckler elements.
Villains:
Killer Moth
Cluemaster
David Cain
Lady Shiva
League of Assassins foot soldiers
